I started reading this comment without looking at the name and thought, my niece’s middle name is Bee too! But then realized this is my sister writing about my niece. Ha!

It was a way of me finally, FINALLY making peace with my body, a promise to not try to change my body for my wedding, and a way to put a positive spin on what otherwise could have been a very stressful body day. One of my favorite photos from my wedding day shows me getting ready, looking in the mirror, with my olive branch peeking out of the back of my dress. Making peace with my body, especially at that time in my life, was such a big deal and I am so glad I marked the occasion with a tattoo!

It was simply beautiful. There is also a lyric from a Shakira song in the movie Zootopia that has always stuck with me: “birds don’t just fly, they fall down and get up.” <3

Hi Lynn! Grief is the last way we get to love someone, and like me, you will always love your brother. Holding a lot of space for you and your grief right now–the first year is very wild and weird! Justin died 4 years ago this November, and one thing I’ve learned is that while his death was very traumatic (I was with him when he died), my grief journey has been SO profound. I’ve grown so much and I know he would be SO proud of me. I know your brother is too.

Get it removed or faded & covered up with something else. I got a tattoo on my collarbone that ended up being larger than I wanted (lessons learned: have several pre-tattoo sessions with your artist first & don’t be talked into something “bolder” if that’s not you). Also I’m somewhat large chested & ended up with a lot of unwanted attention. Good luck if you decide on a fade or removal- it hurts like hell & the process takes awhile but I’m not sorry I’m doing it.

After Joanna featured a calligraphy tattoo I had helped script here on Cup of Jo back in 2010, I’ve had such a wonderful decade and a half helping such special people commemorate a wide variety of occasions and sentiments; it is my favorite part of my job as a calligrapher and was so unexpected.
